Falmouth Business Crime Reduction Initiative

Working in partnership with the local Community Beat Officer, Carrick Urban Safety Partnership and Falmouth Town Centre Manager a new Radio link scheme was launched in the town in June 2006.

As part of this enhanced scheme all new members have to be appropriately registered under the provisions of the Data Protection Act 1998. Therefore a Data Integrity Agreement has been produced for all businesses to sign up to in order for them to use normally confidential Police information. This agreement was circulated to all businesses in the town and as a result of enough interest the radio link scheme was able to proceed to its launch date.

ANTI-SOCIAL BEHAVIOUR

Carrick District Council has now completed a three-month trial project, aimed at reducing noise nuisance and other anti-social behaviour in Falmouth and Penryn.

The Penryn and Falmouth Community Patrol was introduced in July 2006 with support from both Falmouth Town Council and the Carrick Community Safety Partnership.

The patrol operated between 8pm and 4am every night of the week and dealt with no less than 200 separate incidents during the trial, of which more than a third related to noise nuisance.

Other issues handled by the patrol included beach fires and dealing with vagrants and young people. A close working relationship with the Police also enabled patrol officers to help identify licensing infringements and led to the apprehension of two drink drivers. The Police have since contacted the Council to express their thanks for the patrol's professional work.

Elected members and officers will now consider the findings of the pilot project with a view to ensuring the Council maintains a good level of out-of-hours response to noise nuisance and other anti-social activities in the future.
